
Formerly, Ly Son Island District was called as Re Isle, where had a lot of Re following the ancestor’s explanation. It is about 15 nautical miles from Sa Ky Port.

Currently, Ly Son Island District has 3 communes such as: An Hai, An Vinh, An Binh. Ly Son Island District is about 10 natural square meters in area. Its population is more 21 000 including 30% of them living by fishing, 30% by farming ( specializing in growing onion, garlic, corn) and 10% by other jobs.

Ly Son has been famous for the trade name of garlic and onion. Ly Son Garlic and Onion not only is a delicious food but also contains a lot of essence that can prevent and cure some diseases. Besides, Ly Son still remains much more historical, cultural value.

For instant, some evidences prove Vietnam’s territory in Truong Sa and Hoang Sa Island. Because never being influenced devastating war so harsh and the people’s preservative consciousness for their traditional cultural value, Ly Son has maintained the thousand of historical monuments together with its various fine arts, architecture and dense distribution. For example, some monuments relates to Hoang Sa navy which was established since Nguyen Dynasty such as Linh Tu Hermitage, Pham Quang Anh and Vo Van Khiet Pagoda…

It is remained the hallmark of Sa Huynh Culture here (for example, some excavations in Oc and Chinh Spring...) and harmonized the Champak Culture with Dai Viet Culture. Thanking the creation of nature, Ly Son owns many well-known beautiful spots such as Hang and Duc Pagoda, Mu Cu, Tien Well, Crater…

Apart from holding the ceremony for Hoang Sa soldiers, Ly Son’s inhabitant annually hold the traditional boat race from January 4th to 8th of the Lunar Year, worship ceremony for whale and Doi Bong ceremony… For Ly Son’s destination, tourists don’t go sightseeing natural landscapes and picturesque and spectacular ceremonies, but also enjoy specialties and special eating and drinking culture.
